Carbon Dioxide - What Is The Optimum Atmospheric Level?
Carbon Dioxide milestone is passed on May 9, 2013!
Over twenty years (June 23,1988) ago, James Hansen, the director of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and a climate studies scientist, brought the topic of Climate Change to the attention of the U.S. Congress, the media, and the public. A recent scientific paper which Mr. Hansen co-authored, states, "If humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted, paleoclimate evidence and ongoing climate change suggest that CO2 will need to be reduced from its current 385 ppm to at most 350 ppm."
The 350 organization supports carbon dioxide at 350 parts per million (ppm) as a safe target for the earth's atmosphere. A short video in suport of the mission of 350, is below.
