Filk Music: Filk Recordings

Guide for finding resources on filk music.

Filk sound recordings

The MLBSSA has a large and growing collection of filk recordings on many subjects related to science and science fiction. Many of these recordings are hard to find or unavailable in other libraries and archives. Our filk materials can be found by searching for "Filk music" in our online catalog and limiting your search results to sound recordings.

Many of our recordings are on CD and are either single-author works or compilation albums, featuring many different filk artists. These can all be accessed on site in our listening center.

Other items in our filk collections were only released on cassette tape. If you wish to access these recordings, please notify our staff in advance so that the recordings can be ready for you when you arrive. You can request items for use through our online catalog; see these instructions for more information on how to do this. You can also email us with any questions about using our materials.

Search Tips for Specific Formats

When searching for a specific score, recording, book or DVD, an essential step any music library user must take is to designate the Material Type in the Library Catalog's Advanced Search menu:

Material type search highlight

Using this feature allows you narrow your search to ONE TYPE of item so you can browse through broad searches more easily, or improve the accuracy of refined search results.
