BIPOC Fantasy & Science Fiction Literature: Middle Grade

This LibGuide points readers to exemplary fantasy and science fiction books that feature characters who are traditionally erased in the genre: BiPOC (black, indigenous/native peoples, and people of color) individuals.

Middle Grade Fantasy & Science Fiction

Fantasy and science fiction books have long been a favorite among middle school students. From the seminal Chronicles of Narnia series to the modern classic Harry Potter series, middle schoolers are drawn to these imagined worlds and the breathtaking creativity often present within.

These middle grade books feature people of color as the principle protagonists (and antagonists!) and are appropriate for children in grades 4-7.
