What image collections are in JSTOR?

JSTOR is home to 1.3 million images from the arts, humanities, social sciences, and architecture.

There are more than 60 image collections to browse including collections from:

  • The Museum of Modern Art
  • The Art Institute of Chicago
  • The Cleveland Museum of Art
  • The American Insitute of Indian Studies
  • The Detroit Institute of Art
  • And many more!

Searching and Saving Images on JSTOR

Explore two ways to save what you find on JSTOR. (2 minutes)

You can search just for images by choosing the image tab of the search box on any page on JSTOR.

To save from the item page, use the Save button just after the Share button to save it to your Workspace.

On the image results page, you can save images in bulk from the thumbnail view by hovering over an image and choosing the check box. You can repeat that action of hover and select for several items. When you are ready, click on the save button after the cite button at the top of the page.

After conducting a broad image search on JSTOR.org, it’s possible to narrow your search from the search results page with the Refine Results sidebar.

You can refine by:

  • an added key word
  • image resolution
  • a specific date range
  • image classification 
  • geography 
  • collection
