What is the Flip Movie Collection?

Dave Simmons Flip Movie Collection (SC 044)

Flip movies or flip books have great cultural significance in American culture since the first one was introduced in 1868. In addition to their role in the birth of cinema, flip books have been used over the years as promotional items as well as toys for children. The Flip Movies Collection consists 34 flip movie books featuring older cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Droopy, Wood Woodpecker, Andy Panda, Barney to more recent cartoons such as Aaahh!!! Real Monsters. The collection also includes flip movies that include Universal Movie Monsters and the September 11th Terrorist Attacks. Materials in this collection date from 1949 to the present.
