Established in 1996, the Institute for the Study of Culture & Society (ICS) is a public humanities hub at Bowling Green State University. Our aim is to encourage innovation in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, and to communicate the value and significance of that work to the wider public.
The Institute for the Study of Culture & Society supports faculty collaboration across traditional disciplinary boundaries, and serves as an incubator for innovative research and teaching. ICS supports the academic goals of BGSU by helping faculty to develop, communicate, and disseminate their scholarly and creative work to constituencies across campus and throughout the region. With our public events and outreach efforts, we bring issues of vital national and global importance to Northwest Ohio, and, in turn, bring community knowledge back into the university.
Each year, ICS sponsors a Speaker Series featuring nationally and internationally recognized public scholars, artists, and activists. The series is designed to encourage campus- and community-wide conversations about issues of vital national importance. The theme of the 2018–2019 series is “Homelands and Histories.”
