Electronic Book Center: Scholarly & Reference Collection

Getting there

From the library's home page, click on "OhioLINK Ebooks" (on the left-hand side).

What's in it

  • Reference books (over 800 titles from ABC-Clio, Gale and Sage)
  • Scholarly monographs (over 1,100 titles from Oxford University Press)
  • Science, technology and medical titles (over 17,000 titles from Springer)

Features good for teachers

  • Unlimited simultaneous users. If you assign a chapter from an EBC book to your class, they can all read it online at once - no lockouts.
  • Persistent urls. It is easy to link an EBC book in Blackboard or online. While viewing any book, click on "Persistent Link" in the upper left corner and copy the url in the pop-up window. The link is already formatted for off-campus access.

  • User-friendly printing policies. Unlike many e-book collections, EBC books feature a "print view" that allows users to print an entire book chapter at once. Springer EBC titles also offer each chapter in pdf format for easy downloading, printing and saving.
  • Teacher-friendly usage rights. OhioLINK has negotiated licenses with these publishers that allow OhioLINK students, faculty and staff to temporarily download, print, and link to these books in courseware like Blackboard as long as the use is for educational purposes. Click here for more details.

Tips on using the EBC

  • Use the advanced search screen, combining one subject term with one or more full text keywords for the most accurate searching. Narrow results further by publisher - try Oxford for religion, history, economics and humanities books; Springer for computer science, engineering, science or medical topics; and Gale or Sage for reference works.
