Types of Metadata Schema

There are many types of metadata vocabularies that have been developed to describe a variety of objects.  The most recommended metadata schema is Dublin Core and it is what is also used in most software packages. Dublin Core is also the library’s recommended metadata schema and currently the only metadata schema the library will offer support with because it can describe diverse resources such as: videos, web pages, books, objects, and artworks.  However, you may hear of other metadata schema such as TEI, EAD, and MODS, etc. To learn more about these schemas try this brief intro from Wikipedia.
