Innocent When You Dream

These collections of Waits interviews span three decades and orginate from a diverse range of news and entertainment sources, such as NPR and Playboy.

The Piano Has Been Drinking

Tom Waits obviously enjoys pithy quotes, bad jokes and the grey area between exaggeration and lie. These traits are what makes him such a good storyteller and mysterious character. It's difficult to know what to believe in interviews with Waits, but it's always entertaining.

Supposedly, Tom Waits coined the phrases:

"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy"

and

"Champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends"

I Never Talk to Strangers
