A guide to the electronic books collections available through the BGSU Libraries.

Users: Only one person can view a book at a time, but an unlimited number of users can search the database
Contains: A broad range of titles, most in the social sciences, of differing levels of quality. There are over 15,000 titles in eBooks on EBSCOhost; all are also individually cataloged

Printing: Up to 60 pages at a time
Download: User account required.  Download entire title for 72 hours in PDF via Adobe Digital Editions authorized software. Tablet devices should use browser to access the collection and download through the BlueFire Reader app (ADE authorized)
Compatible Devices Tablet devices - iOS, Android (including Kindle FIRE) should install the BlueFire Reader app and authorize it with their ADE ID (email). Books must be borrowed using the browser on the tablet device. Non-tablet devices like older SONY, Nook, or KOBO Readers via a USB transfer from ADE software. ADE software must be installed on the users computer and authorized with an ADE ID. Older Kindles will not read these files. A. Expand to view full Table of Contents.

B. Use the "Download" link to check the book out (maximum of three days) and download it for offline viewing in Adobe Digital Editions (see sidebar for more information).

C. Adjust the view to full-screen or full-page and zoom.

D. Use these arrows to page through the book, or jump to a page.

E. Search within the book.

F. Print. For most titles, you can print up to 60 pages at a time. eBooks on EBSCOhost converts the book text to pdf format. Hover over the other icons in this column to display each tool.

G. Copy the permanent url to the book.

Downloading an EBSCOhost ebook

EBSCOhost ebooks can be checked out for up to three days and downloaded for offline viewing in Adobe Digital Editions.

You will see the download button in the search results screen as well as when you are viewing the full book.

Once you click on it, you will be prompted to log in to your MyEBSCOhost account. If you do not have one, click on the link to create an account.

Sign in to MyEBSCOhost

You can choose a checkout time of one, two or three days (remember, as long as you have a book checked out, no one else in Ohio can view it). Then click "Checkout & Download." Your download will begin automatically.

Downloading the book

While you have the book checked out, you may sign in to your MyEBSCOhost account to use it online from any web-accessible computer.

You can also choose to view the book offline using Adobe Digital Editions. If you do not have Adobe Digital Editions, download it for free by using the link in the download box to connect to the Adobe site. Adobe Digital Editions works with a variety of platforms, including the Nook and several iPad and Android apps, but cannot be used on a Kindle.
