Influential Record Labels

Many new record labels emerged to record early hip-hop artists, and many major labels also tested the waters of rap and hip-hop, including:

Sugar Hill Records

You can do a search of the library's catalog to see all of the Sugar Hill or Enjoy LPs we have.

  • Go to the online catalog
  • Click on the tab that says NUMBERS
  • Click on the tab that says LOCAL CALL #
  • Type in "12/33Sugarhill" or "12/33Enjoy"

"12/33" is the call number we use to indicate that something is a record, and "Sugarhill" indicates the record label.

Below are some recordings from these early labels.
