The President's Plan to Fight Climate Change

On June 25, 2013 President Obama announced his Climate Action Plan.

The White House website has provided an infographic related to the President's executive actions.

The President's Memorandum (June 25, 2013) for the Administrator of the E.P.A. to establish standards for carbon pollution from power plants can be located in the Federal Register

BGSU Research

Did you know that faculty at BGSU have investigated topics related to climate change?

Dr. Jeffrey Snyder

Dr. Scott O. Rogers

When did it begin?

Interested in the history of climate change research?

I recommend Spencer Weart's book (see below), "The Discovery of Global Warming."

Weart has also created a website entitled, The Discovery of Global Warming.  The site has scholarly essays supplementing his book, and providing "A hypertext history of how scientists came to (partly) understand what people are doing to cause climate change."

Carbon Dioxide - What Is The Optimum Atmospheric Level?

Carbon Dioxide milestone is passed on May 9, 2013!

Over twenty years (June 23,1988) ago, James Hansen, the director of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and a climate studies scientist, brought the topic of Climate Change to the attention of the U.S. Congress, the media, and the public.  A recent scientific paper which Mr. Hansen co-authored, states, "If humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted, paleoclimate evidence and ongoing climate change suggest that CO2 will need to be reduced from its current 385 ppm to at most 350 ppm."

The 350 organization supports carbon dioxide at 350 parts per million (ppm) as a safe target for the earth's atmosphere.  A short video in suport of the mission of 350, is below.

For more information on carbon dioxide levels read or download the free online National Research Council report - Climate Stabilization Targets.
